MEDICAL AND HEALTH INFORMATION FOR LAYFOLK

Instructions for Patients on acquiring information relevant to their
concerns from the Internet:
If you need any information on any condition affecting you or anyone around you,
or you merely wish to access general guidelines on health, you can try searching
MSN, Yahoo, AskJeeves, Hotbot or similar search engines.
We recommend that you use the word "WebMD" as a keyword in addition to your
search terms. There are several other sites providing medical information meant
for layfolk that you can access from search engines, especially if your search term
is specific for particular diseases, but the sites will be of varying quality.
Even with WebMD, we recommend that you merely treat the information given
there only as a kind of bench-mark. In all times and conditions, and especially
in difficult cases, it is best to obtain the final opinion on prognosis and treatment
from your own physician or surgeon. At all times, we strongly advise you
AGAINST using WebMD, or any other site, for the purposes of self-medication;
and emphasise that the best treatment for your problem can commence only
AFTER evaluation by your physician or surgeon.
